Official Rules
1.
Progress on the course may only be made while hopping on a hippity-hop with the exception of when crossing paved or graveled intersections.
2.
A hippity-hop is defined as any inflated ball that is capable of allowing a rider to hop along a trajectory where the locomotion is initiated with a jump using both feet planted on the ground at the same time and that then results in a hop upon landing on the inflated ball. This rule allows atheletes to create and modify hippity-hop balls in any way that they wish.
3.
You are allowed to waddle across paved and dirt intersections. "Waddling" is defined as walking with your hippity-hop off the ground, but still being held between your legs.
4.
You must "hop" on the hippity-hop. A "hop" is defined as landing with your bottom on the hippity-hop and then jumping with both feet firmly planted on the ground. The only exception is if the athlete does not have two legs. Such an athelete may hop while only planting one leg on the ground at once.
5.
You may complete the race using as many hippity-hops as you like.
6.
Should your hippity-hop pop, or in some other way become non-functional, you may continue the race using a different hippity-hop.
7.
Transitioning hippity-hops shall occur by dismounting one hippity-hop, mounting the next hippity-hop, and then continuing hopping from from the spot of dismounting the first hippity-hop.
8.
You may complete the race using a friends hippity-hop. If your hippity-hop pops, you may wait for a friend to complete the race and then bring their hippity-hop to you. The only requirement is that you leave your popped hippity-hop where is blew out and then continue hopping from that same point.
9.
Should your hippity-hop pop, or in some other way become non-functional, or should your body become too tired, or in some other way become non-functional, you may qualify for partial completion of the race by walking, crawling, or by some other means traversing the remaining length of the course.
10.
A single person may complete multiple legs of a hippity-hop relay race.
11.
The same hippity-hop may be used for multiple stages of a hippity-hop relay by passing the hippity-hop to the next athlete at the next exchange point.
12.
"Skipping" is strictly forbidden. "Skipping" is defined as landing with your bottom on the hippity-hop and then jumping with only one foot planted on the ground, feet are alternated as you skip across the ground.
13.
The hippity-hopper to cross the finish line in the shortest amount of time wins!
14.
Failure to follow any of the above rules could result in a penalty from an official Hippity-Hop referee. A "penalty" shall consist of being required to hop in circles on your hippity-hop a number of times as specified by the official on the field calling the penalty.
15.
Penalties on the field may be appealed to the Head Hippity-Hop Referee. However, since this will just result in more wasted time, and since you will not have any time deducted from your final race time, this is really just so much wasted effort.
16.
The Head Hippity-Hop Referee has the final say on the field as to whether a hippity-hop is legal and allowed to race. If you have any questions as to whether you modified hippity-hop is legal, please email Hopzilla@hippityhoprace.com before the race. Please provide a description or pictures of your modified ball and Hopzilla will do his best to let you know before the race whether or not your hippity-hop will be allowed.
